It looks good.

Annnnnnd, not all the same effects are on every car. Some cars react horribly, some cars not so much. Honestly depends on the car and the drop.

Not really, cars with little to no wheel gap have been capturing hearts for years now.

That's a racecar, every thing is for function, i.e. not stanced

There is a difference between a race car and a stanced car that will never be on a track to race. Stancers are like ricers, it's all posing.

And so what if it's posing?

List me what cars you drive.

Perfect.

You fell in love with the E30 M3 because it was a racecar for the street, you lusted after one but you weren't able so you bought an E36 328 with a stick so you can relive your dreams as a racecar. But after much thought you ditched on the Miata as a racecar so you sticked with the E36 because no one can tell the 328 from the M3.

You bought the Pinto because A. It's hated and B. It's unknown to the masses. You're a hipster.

Thus, as stated above you're a poser.

See how easy it is??

Agreed. If you avoid excessively wide tires and camber, it can be done nicely without ruining the ride. I used stock width tires and wheels so I didn;t have to roll my fender. My coils are not the most extreme in stiffness and so I still have suspension travel. I also used stock camber/toe settings by having it professionally aligned on a rack at a VW shop. It took the alignment just fine. Put on some normal rubber and its a neat little car that doesn;t break my back to drive and looks different. Maybe I'm not "stanced" but it works alright. Tire wear for the first 5k miles is non-existent while the potenzas on the wheels when I got them were good on the outside edge but balding/worn through on the inside.

Nope, I bought the BMW because it was cheap, and my dad bought the pinto new and gave it to me.

Thus, you're a douchebag.

I'm showing to you how easy it is to make assumptions.

These people who stance theses cars are just like me and you, they are gearheads. And if they put their own work in their own car, more power to them.

No, a proper gearhead wouldn't purposefully ruin a car's handling and ride in the name of "style"

Kinja'd!!!0

What makes a gearhead proper? You don't have to care all about performance, speed, handling or even own a car to be a gearhead. There are no rules, you just need to love cars.

I've been in a E36 and they are just wonderful cars...but stance, especially the unneeded such little stance on this BMW. Lowering is fine. Stance just makes it weird.

Let me butt in here for a sec.

I get both your points. I get the appeal of a car that is flush and all the lines work as well as it did on the concept drawing.

HOWEVER, That doesn't make it a very usable/performance oriented car.

Having said that, people that stance their car ( and I don't mean stance as in 45 degree camber but as in making it flush) care about cars too. Granted, they care more about looks than functionality and I don't understand why you would put money in that instead of making it fun, but for each their own.
All parties here are car lovers, yet for different reasons.

All said and done, I can't see a stanced car and think this:

No, a gearhead likes to tinker and work to make things better, they enjoy getting down and dirty. They build racecars, proper hotrods, motorcycles, bicycles, and any mechanical contraptions. They learn how things work and will make them faster, better and if it breaks, they fix it or make it better than when it was new. How it looks when parked comes in well after how it performs.

A car guy is what you are describing, and that's fine, but don't confuse the two.

Should I give my opinion on stance? I'm gonna give my opinion on stance

I don't mind it IF you recognize that it kills performance. What I mean is standing a car by itself is fine. Stancing a car and adding stuff to it to make it look good? Fine. But once you cross the line of conflicting modifications, you should be stripped of car ownership privileges. Stance the car, then add an intake and tune the engine? NO. Stance the car, then tell people your exhaust adds HP? NO.

This E36 is a good example. Lowered the car? Fine. Lowered the car and did a custom intake and exhaust? Whyyyyyy.

A FWD Jetta? Sure. A Sports car (M3): No. It's like a pickup/suv with giant rims and rubber band tires.

Eh, it's their car and money. If they like the M3 and stance it fine, just don't try to brag about or enhance the performance at the same time.

Whilst I agree that the full on stance thing the kids be doing can hurt performance, but not all lowering is bad. Like all things, moderation and good choices are key.

My old s14 was accused of being "stances" because the Megan coilovers it came on lowered the ride height, but it by no means was flush. And I guarantee it being slightly lowered improved the general handling a complete shitton, as I've driven more stock 240s than I care to recall.

Make no mistake, I hate "hella flush" cars, especially when people drive them around slammed (my buddy bagged his Audi, and his ride height is around stock, he only lowers it when parked, yes still touchy, not really the same though.) But even a bit of lowering gets hated on and labeled "stanced" all the time, and it's just not fair damnit.

All that said, I would never lower an E36 that low. Entirely past the point of hurting performance.

The dryer tubes thing was dumb, but he definitely had a conical filter as well. Unless that's stock? I have no idea.

I'm willing to bet that's aftermarket. I think the M3 used a box air filter (at least my 325i does).
